Grand Moff Tarkin announces important news to high-ranking imperial officers - the senate has been dissolved by the Emperor, so the last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away.

The regional governors now have direct control over their territories - and fear of the Death Star shall keep the local systems in line.

Admiral Motti is one of the officers who firmly believe the Death Star is now the source of absolute power over the universe - even more powerful than the Force, in which he doesn’t believe. He dares to state his opinion in front of Darth Vader, who reminds him that the power to destroy a star system is insignificant compared to the power of the Force. And when Admiral Motti reminds Darth Vader that his Force powers did not help to recover the stolen plans of the Death Star, Vader demonstrates the power of the Force by putting Motti in a Force chokehold.

Darth Vader only releases Motti on Grand Moff Tarkin’s order.
Tarkin announces that Darth Vader will provide the location of the secret base of the rebellion when the Death Star is fully operational - then the rebellion shall be crushed with one swift stroke.
